I’m pretty pleased with my over-all weekend in Townsville, considering it’s a track I’ve never been to before. It took me a little while to get into it after coming 19th and 18th in the first two practice sessions. I pushed a little too hard in practice two and ran off at turn 6 & 7 – which pushed me into the wall and took off my left mirror. I was able to go into the pits a lap later and remove the mirror and finish the session, surprisingly I even managed to go three tenths quicker!
The first qualifying session didn’t really go to plan; I put the Brema Group Racing Toyota 86 on the grid in 25th ahead of Race 1, so I knew I had a bit of work to do. Come the race, I managed to pluck away and pick up some positions and thankfully finished up 18th.
Come Sunday, I was feeling pretty comfortable and had a little more confidence in myself around the track. I was able to come away with 15th and 16th for the two races – which I was pleased with.
My main focus moving forward is trying to qualify better and further up the grid to help me out come the races.
I really liked the track, I thought it was going to be tight and a little slow – but it turned out to be quite fast flowing as well as lots of curbs to ride, which made it really fun.
The crew did a fantastic job in putting the car together and also prepping it ahead of each session, I can’t thank them enough for their efforts!
We have a bit of time in between the next round – so it’s back to work for me, as well as training hard and studying data for the next track, which is The Bend in South Australia, August 24 – 26.
A huge thanks to all my sponsors too for all your support and helping me get to where I am!
Looking forward to hitting The Bend Motorsport Park – another track I’ve yet to cut laps on!
Hope to see you there!
