Zane Morse – The Bend Wrap Up

There were a lot of positives to take away from the weekend at The Bend Motorsport Park. I managed to come away with a few good results (albeit Sunday’s DNF) so I’m quite please with the overall results.

Friday’s practice sessions I finished up 13th and 12th ,which I was pretty happy with. The car felt fast and I used the sessions getting used to the circuit.

Come qualifying, I was hoping for a 10th – but I was unable to pull it off, and put the Brema Group Racing Toyota 86 P15 ahead of Race 1. I was confident going into the race and was able to pick up a few spots to cross the line in 12th for Race 1.

Race 2 I had my eyes set on a top 10 finish, which I managed to do and brought it home in P10, which I was really happy with. I also had a good battle with Jason Bright, which was a lot of fun racing against a V8 Supercar driver. It was a really great experience and we even had a nice chat after the race too, which was really cool.

Unfortunately in Race 3, I tried going a little too fast and there was a bit of a ditch in the track just outside the corner, which I unfortunately hit, resulting in my car going into ABS fault. With that, I had also done a bit of damage to the car, so ultimately that ended my race.

A huge thanks to Mark Rundle who came on board as my engineer for the weekend. Mark helped me tremendously; it was great having someone show me exactly where I needed to improve, all my braking markers and technical bits and pieces so that was a huge help.

Overall, the track was really cool; it had very high-speed corners and was very technical, requiring a lot of concentration so it was a lot of fun to drive. Being a wide track, there was quite a few passing opportunities, which made it great for the fans to watch too.

The facilities around the circuit were also fantastic, I feel very privileged to have been able to drive at The Bend and look forward to tackling it again!

We have a lot of repairing to do in the break, but I’m really looking forward to Sandown 14-16 September! I know the track pretty well and raced there last year, so hopefully I can get a good result.
