Zane Morse – Phillip Island Wrap Up
It was a tough weekend at the WD – 40 Phillip Island 500, I didn’t quite get the results I was after, but it was certainly a great learning curve.
Friday’s Practice session was all about getting a feel for the car as well as the track and so I finished up 25th and 28th. We made a few changes ahead of Saturday, and managed to Qualify P16, out of a field of 39 – which was great! We did though suffer from a lot of under steer, which held us back – but the car felt awesome.
Unfortunately I got caught up in an accident in Race 1, which ultimately caused some hefty damage and forced us to retire. Not what we wanted, but that’s racing I guess!
Race 2 saw us start from the back of the grid and so I knew I had my work cut out! I managed to blast through the pack and make up 22 positions, finishing P16 and posting the 7th quickest time overall.
I was hopeful ahead of Race 3, but unfortunately luck was not on our side and I got tagged, which bent the steering making it hard to take places. I ended up crossing the line in P17.
The car definitely has the pace – it’s just a matter of staying out of the hustle and bustle and qualifying further up the pointy end of the grid. Time to re – group ahead of Townsville, July 6 – 8th 2018.
A huge thank you to all my sponsors – without you all, I wouldn’t be here racing!
Look forward to hitting the track again in a couple of month’s time!
Zane!
