Zane Morse – Phillip Island Wrap Up

The first round of the Toyota 86 Series is done and dusted. Considering the first round back after a long break and also settling into a new car, I had an ok weekend.

Friday’s practice sessions I managed to place P21 and P14 and was feeling pretty comfortable come Saturday’s qualifying session. I managed to settle into P8 come the last lap of qualifying but unfortunately there was some push and shove and on the last lap, it triggered an ABS fault where I slipped down the field and could only hold onto 28th.

Starting Sunday’s race 2 from the back of the field, I knew it was going to be tough to fight through the pack! I got a pretty decent start though and managed to cut through the field and was hunting a top 10 finish. Unfortunately, I got turned around and speared off the track, pushing me back to 35th

Sunday’s final race saw me start from the back of the field again and I was determined to stay out of drama. I managed to sit back and make passes where appropriate and claimed P19.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad weekend – I just have to stay clear of all the hustle and bustle as the car certainly has the speed!

Big thanks to my crew and sponsors for all your help and support!

Onwards and upwards as we look forward to round two of the Toyota 86 Series in Townsville, 5 – 7 July.
