Hard to believe the year is over already. But, I had an absolute ball at Newcastle for the final round of the Toyota 86 Series. I thoroughly enjoyed the track and my confidence grew as the weekend went on.
Considering I had never driven the Newcastle track before, I was pretty pleased with my results. Friday’s two practice sessions gave me the opportunity to get familiar with the track, where I finished 18th and 13th.
I was eager to get back out there Saturday and give it a red-hot crack and I managed to qualify 9th ahead of race 1. Race 1 I picked up a couple of positions to cross the line in 7th, which is where I would start for Sunday’s race 2.
The crew did a mega job in preparing my car for the weekend and I managed pass a few cars for race 2 and finished up P4, which I was absolutely stoked with! Unfortunately, I made an error in race 3, which forced me into the tyre barrier and ended my day with a DNF. I was a little sore after the crash, but glad to have come out ok and am doing fine now. I can also confirm that the other driver’s involved are all doing ok; John Iafolla and Luke van Herwaade. Luke was released from hospital late Sunday evening.
I’d like to say a big thank you to all the medical staff who were so wonderful and so professional after the crash.
Otherwise, there were a lot of positives to take away from the final round, it makes me eager to turn forward the clock to 2019 already!
A massive thank you to all of my sponsors and supporters for all your support throughout the 2018 season, I couldn’t have done it without you all.
Bring on 2019.
